Hiring a web development company can be stressful, especially if you’re unsure of how to approach the process or what questions to ask to get what you need out of it. Here are 10 critical questions you should ask any potential web development company in usa before handing over your business’s future to them.

What is your company history?

Web development companies tend to come and go in Silicon Valley, so take some time to research your candidate’s background. You can ask them how long they’ve been in business or how many websites they’ve developed in their career.

If you can’t find much information about your candidate’s history, steer clear of them and go with a more established candidate. Why take risks with your money? When it comes to web development, it’s better to work with someone who has proven they can get things done than someone who is going out on their own for the first time.

How will you communicate with me?

Communication is essential when working with a web development company. If you don’t feel that your developer is keeping you up-to-date on how things are going, then look elsewhere. You should be in contact with your developer several times per week, and should receive detailed project updates at least once per week. The best communication happens face-to-face; make sure that you have regular meetings with your team so that no questions are left unanswered for long periods of time.

Who will work on my project?

If you can, meet with your designer or development team face-to-face before you hire them. You’ll be working closely with these people, so it’s important to feel like they are good at their jobs and nice people. In addition, many larger agencies have specific specialties and departments. For example, some companies might specialize in web development while others excel at digital marketing.

What are your past projects?

A business owner would want to know more about your past work in order to ensure that you’re capable of handling their needs. By providing examples, like websites you’ve created and any awards you’ve won, prospective clients can get a better idea of what they can expect from your design or development services.

How do you quote projects?

Many startups are tempted to send an email or call up their favorite developer and say something like, I need you to build me an e-commerce store that’s user-friendly. That may work in your friend group when you’re trying to decide where to get lunch, but not when hiring a website development company in usa.

Do you have a payment policy?

The first thing you should ask any potential web development company is whether they have a payment policy. It’s important to get an idea of how long you’ll have to wait before you see your investment. If possible, try asking for previous payment schedules so that you can base expectations off of previous projects.

Are there any other costs associated with your services?

One of the most important questions you can ask any web development company is about additional costs. Every website requires various amounts of upkeep and maintenance, but some agencies will attempt to nickel-and-dime you for every service they provide. Some agencies may even charge you for different services on top of your monthly hosting fees if they’re under contract. Make sure any agency you hire includes all its costs in one package that’s easy to understand and allows budgeting down the road.

How long does it take to build websites from scratch?

One of your first questions should be how long it will take for your company to build your website from scratch. Beware of any companies that can’t give you a realistic time frame for delivery, as building and launching a website takes months (if not years) in some cases. You don’t want to hire a firm that takes too long just to get started on your project—that only adds costs.

Do you use templates, or do you code from scratch?

Many templated designs are quick and easy, but don’t offer that bespoke touch. If you want a website that is tailored for your business, then you will have to work with someone who has time and expertise in coding. However, if you’re happy with a cookie-cutter design, it might be quicker and cheaper with templates. Think about what you really need from your site when making your decision.

How are projects managed after development has begun?

A lot of companies will offer fixed-price services, but it’s important to understand exactly how projects are managed after development has begun. This includes knowing how budget estimates are constructed, how revisions and additional work are billed and whether or not changes in scope can be accommodated. It’s also essential to find out what software tools will be used during your project.
